Panchapeethas

Shri Jagadguru Rambhapuri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha

The Shri Jagadguru Rambhapuri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha was established by Jagadguru Renukacharya in the Malayachala region, situated on the banks of the Bhadra River in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka. Renukacharya, a prominent figure, imparted Lingadhiksha to the great sages and propagated the philosophy of Shaktivishishtita Siddhanta, an essential doctrine of Veerashaivism. The term Veera, seen in the name Veerashaiva, signifies knowledge, the heroic way of life and the oneness with Lord Shiva. It embodies the core principles and divine teachings of Veerashaivism, emphasizing righteousness, spirituality and unity with the divine.

The Peetha is known for its victorious spiritual journey against Adharma (unrighteousness), leading to the establishment of Dharma across the land. For over 125 years, the followers of the Peetha have been blessed with spiritual liberation, divine teachings and practical life philosophies. Under the guidance of the Peetha, devotees are gifted with spiritual knowledge, principles of Dharma and a deeper understanding of cultural and spiritual practices, illuminating the true essence of life.

The spiritual journey of Shri Rambhapuri Veergangadhara Jagadguru is marked by intense dedication, practicing Kayakayoga (devotion through work), Vīravairāgya (heroic renunciation) and Iṣṭaliṅga Mahā Pūjā (worship of the sacred Linga). These practices reflect the dedication of the Peetha to the service of Lord Shiva, guiding devotees towards spiritual excellence.

Currently, the Peetha is led by Shri Shri Shri 1008 Jagadguru Prasanna Renuka Dr. Veerasomeshwara Rajadeshikendra Shivacharya Bhagavatpadangalavaru. He tirelessly travels across the land, conducting Dharma seminars and spiritual gatherings, offering blessings through istalinga Maha Puja and enlightening people on the profound significance of Dharma. His efforts aim to bring peace to the world and uplift the spiritual consciousness of the masses.

Shri Jagadguru Ujjain Saddharma Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha

Shri Jagadguru Darukacharya Bhagavatpada, the second incarnation of Lord Jagadodaya, established the Saddharma Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha at the Ujjayini Mahakshetra in Madhya Pradesh. Taking birth as Shri Siddheshwara Linga, Darukacharya propagated the principles of Saddharma, which translates to the true, righteous or good Dharma. The essence of Saddharma emphasizes the understanding and practice of true religious principles and the cultivation of virtues.

Shri Darukacharya is also symbolized by the red flag, a sign of renunciation, representing the core values of sacrifice and selfless service. His teachings focused on the annihilation of demonic forces and guiding his disciples toward the practice of true Dharma. Through these efforts, the Peetha aims to foster spiritual awareness, purify hearts and expand the reach of Veerashaiva Dharma.

The Peetha’s tradition was further upheld by prominent spiritual leaders such as Shri Siddhalinga Bhagavatpada, who, through rigorous sadhana, expanded the influence of Veerashaivism. Over time, the Peetha has grown under the leadership of 1008 Jagadguru Siddhalinga Rajadeshikendra Bhagavatpada, whose continuous efforts are nurturing the Dharma awakening among people. Through his devotion, the teachings of the Peetha are becoming even more prominent, ensuring that the essence of Dharma and culture is passed down to future generations.

Shri Jagadguru Kedara Vairagya Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha

From the third Aghora face of Lord Shiva, Shri Jagadguru Ghantakarnacharya descended through the sacred Shri Ramanatha Linga of Draksharama to establish the Vairagya Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha at Kedara Kshetra in Uttarakhand. This Peetha is dedicated to the spiritual realization of Shiva’s essence through the unification of Shiva and the soul, emphasizing the path of renunciation.

The Peetha’s teachings focus on attaining Shivajnana (knowledge of Shiva), Shivadhyana (meditation on Shiva), Shivavrata (vows of Shiva), Shivopasana (worship of Shiva) and Shivapuja (ritual offerings to Shiva). These fivefold practices help devotees overcome internal adversaries like the Arishadvargas (six enemies), Saptavyasanas (seven vices) and Ashtamadas (eight egos), thereby merging with Shiva’s infinite consciousness.

Representing the fiery nature of the element Agni (fire), the Peetha carries the radiant blue flag, symbolizing the spiritual clarity and purification that burns away impurities. With a lineage of approximately 324 spiritual leaders, the Kedara Peetha has consistently illuminated the spiritual landscape of the Himalayas.

Currently, Shri Shri Shri 1008 Jagadguru Rawal Bhimashankara Linga Shivacharya Bhagavatpada leads the Peetha. Through his profound teachings and spiritual practices, the Peetha continues its mission of guiding humanity towards Dharma and Moksha, rooted in profound philosophical wisdom.

Sri Jagadguru Srishaila Surya Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha

From the fourth face of Lord Pashupati, Shri Jagadguru Dhenukarnacharya emerged and established the Surya Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha at Srisaila Kshetra in Andhra Pradesh. Just as the sun illuminates the world, this Peetha radiates the light of divine knowledge, dispelling ignorance and enriching lives with spiritual wisdom. It emphasizes the purification of the mind and spreading the resonance of truth across all realms.

The Peetha shares the profound philosophy of Lord Shiva, highlighting life’s purpose and the significance of existence. It embodies the attributes of the sun, symbolizing enlightenment and vitality. Leading with the energy of the air element (Vayu Tattva), the Peetha raises the white flag as a symbol of peace and purity. It propagates ethical thinking, righteous conduct and cultural values to enrich societal virtues.

Shri Jagadguru Kashi Jnana Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha

From the fifth face (Ishana Mukha) of Lord Ishwara, Shri Jagadguru Vishwakarnacharya incarnated through the sacred Vishwanatha Linga at Kashi (Varanasi) in Uttar Pradesh. He established the Jnana Simhasana Mahasamsthana Peetha with the divine mission to liberate beings from the shackles of ignorance through the transformative power of divine knowledge.

The Peetha emphasizes the significance of a Guru, regarded as the ultimate embodiment of wisdom and divine enlightenment. Its mission is to elevate humanity by fostering virtues like righteousness, ethical living, discipline and wisdom, creating harmony and spiritual progress. Representing the Akasha Tattva (space element), the Peetha’s yellow flag symbolizes the expansive and inclusive nature of Dharma.

Throughout its lineage, the Mahacharyas of this Peetha have been dedicated to promoting equality, spiritual growth and moral upliftment. Currently, Shri Shri Shri 1008 Jagadguru Dr. Chandrashekhara Shivacharya Bhagavatpada leads the Peetha, imparting the core values of Dharma and guiding humanity toward a blissful and enlightened life.

When we examine the universal principles of growth and expansion in the great tradition of Veerashaivism, it becomes evident that the Panchapeethas (Five Sacred Thrones) hold a position of prime importance from the very beginning. These Peethas are aligned with the fundamental elements (Pancha Bhootas), principles (Pancha Tattvas), guiding philosophies (Pancha Sutras), symbolic colors (Pancha Varnas), cardinal directions (Pancha Dikshas), lineages (Pancha Gotras) and scriptures (Pancha Vedas).

The Pancha Acharyas (Five Founders of the Peethas)—Agnatesha, Dadhichi, Vyasa, Sananda and Durvasa—are said to have disseminated the essence of Shivadvaita Siddhanta, a non-dualistic Shaivite philosophy, drawing from the teachings of Lord Shiva himself. These Acharyas established the spiritual foundation for the Peethas, which continue to inspire and guide practitioners across generations.

Historically, the Sanatana Panchapeethas have spread their branches far beyond their origins, reaching across the seas and into the Himalayas. For thousands of years, they have worked tirelessly for the propagation, protection and preservation of Dharma with philosophical depth and dedication. The enduring legacy of these revered Peethas ensures their continued grandeur and relevance for generations to come.
